When my best friend was here in October, we decided to try the Shoreline Sightseeing Classic Lake Tour because she wanted to see the Chicago skyline from Lake Michigan. The Classic Lake Tour was the shortest (40 minutes) and the cheapest boat tour we have done in Chicago. It was audio narrated, which is not my favorite. It’s harder for me to pay attention to an audio than a person.
That said, we still had a great time. The weather was absolutely perfect, and we learned interesting facts about important Chicago landmarks. The tour gave a good history of Chicago and provided an overview of some of the architecture along the lake. The views of the skyline were spectacular on such a gorgeous day.
The verdict:
If you are looking for a short and cheap tour on Lake Michigan, the Shoreline Sightseeing Classic Lake Tour is a good option. It is my least favorite of the tours we have done, but I didn’t feel like I wasted my money.
I love going on the Shoreline Architecture Tour! The first time my fiancé visited me in Chicago we did that at night ending with fireworks. It's pricier, but totally worth it seeing the fireworks from Lake Michigan!
ReplyDeleteTotally worth it for the views and photos!! I would love to do the canal tour in Chicago one day. Have you done one of those?
ReplyDeleteI did a bus tour through Chicago when I was there a few years ago, but this looks like far more fun!
ReplyDeleteWe did a hop off, hop on tour with one of our visitors, but I prefer being on the water! :)
DeleteGary did this tour when he was in Chicago last summer and I told him when we go back we have to do it again!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun tour. Totally need to add this to my list of things to do when in Chicago.
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous view! I love that you've shared so much of your city!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about not being able to pay attention as much when it's just a recording versus an actual person. Even though it wasn't your favorite tour, it looks like y'all still had some amazing views of the Chicago skyline! I'll have to look into that one if we make up to Chicago again sometime soon!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so pretty, what a fun thing to do!
ReplyDeleteI love boat tours! I've done them in Paris and London, and if I get to go to San Francisco this summer, we're totally doing one up there too!
ReplyDeleteI love the river tours! They are my favorite Chicago activity so far, besides Cubs games. I did a lake cruise but it wasn't really a tour. Love the views!
ReplyDeleteThe views are the best! :) We are hoping to make it to a Cubs game before we leave Chicago!
DeleteI can't get over how beautiful that lake is! I'm sure this was a breathtaking tour.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Wisconsin so my family LOVES going to Chicago for shopping or a weekend getaway. I've done nearly everything there is to do in Chicago EXCEPT take a lake Michigan boat cruise! i always think of it as terrible touristy, which is weird because i've done all the other terribly touristy things in Chicago, haha. I'm going to make it a point to take a cruise when i'm back in Chicago this summer.
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely try to do one! They are definitely touristy but so fun! It's worth it just for the gorgeous views!
DeleteLove love love the Shoreline Tours in Chicago, I honestly think the river and the beautiful lake is what won me over in that amazing city over NYC <3
