I always get nostalgic this time of year because my TimeHop is filled with reminders of the time Christopher and I lived in Europe (we left the United States in late January). One of my favorite memories from our adventure was the two weeks we spent exploring Italy, visiting Milan, Lake Como, Venice, Rome, Florence, Pisa, Naples,
Capri,
Cinque Terre, and
Stresa. This morning, as I gazed out the window at a cold and snowy Chicago, I started reminiscing about our beautiful warm and sunny day walking along the Via dell’Amore.
The Via dell’ Amore, or “The Pathway of Love” is a path that links the first two towns in Cinque Terre: Riomaggiore and Manarola. It is said to have gotten its name because it’s an easy path for lovers who live in the two cities to take to meet each other. The trail is a little over a kilometer and is about a 20-minute walk, depending on crowds.
The Via dell’Amore is the kind of place that shows up in my dreams. I love being by water, so there was nothing better than walking by the gorgeous sea with absolutely stunning cliff views. I could have stayed there all day.
One of my favorite parts of the path was a place where we could climb on the rocks to get an amazing view of the landscape and be as close as possible to the sea.
Sadly, a little while after our Via dell’Amore adventure, there was a huge rockslide, and Via dell’Amore was closed. At this time, only 200 meters of the path is open. We had such a wonderful time that I would love to go back once it opens again.
So amazing! My husband and I went a couple years ago and it's still one of our favorite places!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! How sad that most of it isn't open anymore. I bet you're super glad you were there when it was!
ReplyDeleteThe colors are just so vibrant and stunning! What a beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteThat is so so gorgeous! I'm so sad to learn it's closed now!
ReplyDeleteI was so sad to hear that! There are other gorgeous views in Cinque Terre, but this was such a nice walk.
DeleteI wouldn't mind being there right now!
ReplyDeleteMe too! It's such a stunning place. :)
DeleteThis has been on my list for so long. I hope to finally make it soon. Also, I chose you in my Liebster Award nomination post. See you at the webinar tonight, I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteSee the post here.
Thank you so much for the nomination! :) You should definitely head to Cinque Terre whenever you can-it's one of my favorite places! See you tonight!
DeleteI really hope we're able to travel here one day! It's so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, one of my biggest regrets is that I didn't live abroad when I was in school! I can't believe that y'all had 2 weeks to explore Italy, and how gorgeous Cinque Terra is! That's actually where our friends spent their anniversary last year once they had arrived in Italy, and they just talked about how much they loved it. Hopefully the bridge will be back open soon, that's so sad about the rock slide!
ReplyDeleteIt looks gorgeous!!! And it's nice to see where you got your photo from :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't study abroad, too scared to, but I wish I would have.

This is beyond beautiful! I have got to make it to Europe soon!
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous! I'm sad to hear most of the path is closed. Daniel and I will be going to Cinque Terre very soon and would have loved to walk it! I'm sure there are other good hikes there though! I cannot wait! Any other recommendations for while we are there?
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty mad at myself that in college when I was studying in Italy I didn't go to Cinque Terre - it's so gorgeous there!! The Pathway of love - how amazing!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

ReplyDeleteWhere did you all stay?? We're planning on hitting up Cinque Terre on our trip in April! Any recommendations on places we shouldn't miss beyond Via dell'Amore?! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post because I was able to transplant some of my own memories through yours. I've been to Cinque Terre twice and other parts of Italy as well. It is truly one of the most stunning places I've ever visited.
ReplyDeleteSuch an amazing place, the views were absolutely amazing.
ReplyDeleteYou have lived in so many amazing places! How gorgeous are these pics?! <3

What a beautiful place to explore!
ReplyDeleteI love the water, too! I think it's awesome that you climbed the rocks like that... I would've been scared! Especially now that you said there was a rockslide later! lolol
ReplyDeleteWow sounds like a wonderful place and the pics are exquisite! You and the hubs define;ly travel to some amazing places that are unknown to me.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this makes me miss the Cinque Terre! I loved our time there SO much!
ReplyDeleteummm can i come with you on this trip next time?! how incredible! im a huge travel bug and actually traveling to Europe for the 3rd time this sept to visit Germany and AUstria! so glad finding your blog through the webinar last night! hope you'll stop by mine!
ReplyDeleteThose photos are so gorgeous that it's hard to believe it's real. I've never been outside the US, so I always look at pictures of Europe and try to live vicariously through people who have got to witness it in person. The water is so blue!
ReplyDeleteThe water was seriously so stunning! I couldn't stop looking at it. :)
DeleteThese are all so beautiful! What I would give to be able to be transported there right now haha!
ReplyDeleteCinque Terre is my favorite place in the whole world. I hiked through all five villages. It was one of the more difficult hikes I've done, but also without a doubt, the most beautiful. Thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures. I'm so nostalgic now.
ReplyDeleteYour post is giving me major wanderlust! I think Italy is the most beautiful place in the world and it feels like when you leave, you leave behind a bit of your soul! What I wouldn't give to be swimming in that sea right now!

I have such a hard time picking between places in Europe, but Italy is definitely up there for me! I'm with you-I wish I could be swimming in that sea instead of snow falling outside my window! :)
Deletethose are stunning views--giving me wanderlust over here! i would love to visit more of italy one day.
ReplyDeleteWow, these photos are amazing and so is the story of the rock slide . . . what a shame! Aren't you so glad you got to experience it before it was closed? I, too, love being near the water . . . it breaths new life into me! It's been way too many years since I was last in Europe - thanks for sharing some of it's beauty!
ReplyDeleteThese photos are stunning!!! Yikes about the rock slide but glad you got to see it before that happened!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! I want to live by the sea :D
