Super Week Confessions

This week is what Chris and I call our “super week,” easily the busiest week every year. Chris and I were born two days apart (even less if you count the massive time difference!). His birthday was yesterday (July 21), and mine is tomorrow (July 23). Our wedding anniversary is two days after my birthday (July 25). We hadn’t actually planned to get married that week (the original date was in June), but it worked out that July 25 was the only date we could get all the vendors we wanted. I thought it would be fun to share some confessions on this crazy week:

Yesterday was my first time on the computer since Friday morning. My in laws were in town this weekend, and I have been showing off our beautiful city! We did so much in three days, and I got to check off quite a few things off my Chicago to-do list. I have missed reading and commenting on all of your lovely blogs though!

I had meant to write a sweet post for Christopher’s birthday yesterday, but we went on a dinner cruise to celebrate our birthdays and anniversary with my in laws, so I ran out of time. #wifefail

Chris starts two weeks straight of night float today, which means he works from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. every day. Honestly, I am super bummed night float fell on my birthday, but that’s the life of a resident wife. The silver lining is he gets weekends off when he is on night float, so we get to celebrate our anniversary together!

I feel so bad complaining about Christopher’s schedule since he’s the one who has to work the crazy hours, but sometimes, it’s just hard. Like yesterday when I booked a reservation for 6 p.m. for Christopher's birthday...and had to cancel it because he got held up at work. Thankfully, this time his night schedule is just 10 nights.

When we were 20 (yes, we got married young), the idea of super week was so exciting, but now it is a bit exhausting to celebrate so much at once!

Speaking of age, I can’t believe I’m turning 26 tomorrow. If I get some time to do it, I’ll write a few birthday thoughts tomorrow.

  1. Happy super week! You guys have so much to celebrate. My I know where you're coming from with it being exhausting. Sometimes just squeezing in one celebration in the midst of work and life and everything is can feel like a lot. So three in one week? I get it.

  8. Congratulations on all of your celebrations! Man, that does sound like an exhausting week, and I'm sure it's tough to have Chris so busy especially during this time. They say that being the partner of a grad student, a resident, or any other "training" job that's super intense like that is tough. But it won't be forever, and I know both of you make each other a priority, which is really all that matters. Enjoy your Super Week, girl friend!

  12. I understand the crazy working hours! I'm currently a soon to be stay at home mom, but as a contractor I've had to work 6 12 hour shifts a week for 4-8 weeks straight a couple times a year. There's literally no time for anything but sleeping, eating, and working. Thankfully once our baby is here, I'll be job free for a while. My husband works in college athletics so when school is in session, he not only has to work normal weekly hours but has to attend several games or events a week. We've had to cancel plans a time or two due to a game going into overtime or starting late or whatever. It sucks, but we've learned to just relish the summer when he's not so busy :)
