Our One Year in Chicago To-Do List: Tourists in Our City

Now that we have been living in Chicago for a month with only 11 months to go, I wanted to share our list of fun activities we hope to accomplish while we’re here. Chris doesn't get much time off, so I wanted to be organized. We will be checking some of these things off in the coming weeks with both of our birthdays and anniversary coming up and my in-laws coming into town! After putting together a list of tourist attractions, food, and weekend trips, I realized it was super long, so I decided to split it into three parts. Look out for part two and part three in the coming weeks!

Tourists in Our City

Take an architecture boat tour

Take a night cruise on the lake to see the fireworks at Navy Pier

Visit the Shedd Aquarium

Visit the Art Institute of Chicago

Go to a Cubs game at Wrigley Field

Visit the Lincoln Park Zoo during Christmas to see the lights

Visit the Lincoln Park Observatory

Spend a day at the beach

Take some silly photos by Cloud Gate (the bean)

Check out the Macy’s display on State Street at Christmas

Visit The Museum of Science and Industry

Go to Taste of Chicago

Go on a Chicago food tour

Try a Chicago chocolate tour

Go to as many festivals as possible

Have you been to Chicago? Do you think I left something off my list? I would love more suggestions!

  1. Looks like a great list! We went to Chicago last Thanksgiving. It was fun to see the Thanksgiving Day parade and then visit the Christkindlmarket in Daley Plaza. Can't wait to see all your Chicago adventures. http://txtanya.blogspot.com/2014/12/chicago-part-ii.html

  7. You'll love the Architecture Tour! It's a blast! And you can't live in Chicago and not take the typical touristy picture by the bean. The fireworks at Navy Pier sound amazing, along with the food tour! You've got an amazing list going!

  10. I went on the architectural boat tour last year and definitely recommend it. It was fun relaxing while learning about some history and seeing the beautiful buildings. We also went to a game at Wrigley field which is very affordable and worth checking out. Hope you get to accomplish all of these things when Chris has free time.
