Confessions: Pregnancy So Far

One of the things I have really forced myself to do since I got pregnant is to slow down when I need to. I love blogging and hate when I have to miss days, but right now I have to focus more on my health, and there are days where I simply can’t write. I’m also super behind on answering comments (I’ll get to all of them, I promise!), but know I appreciate all of your congratulations and sweet words. Chris and I are so excited to share this new journey with y’all, and hopefully I will get to a place where I can write whenever I want soon!

Today I did want to share a few pregnancy confessions with y’all. You hear so many different things about pregnancy from friends and family before you’re pregnant, but there’s nothing like going through it yourself! Of course, every pregnancy is different, so these are just a few things I want to share about mine.

I confess I didn’t think “pregnancy brain” was a real thing until I got pregnant. I usually have a good memory, so it’s weird to me when I forget dates and other random things. I was so paranoid about forgetting my in-laws’ birthdays last week that I made sure to write it down in a million places.

I confess that hearing our baby’s heartbeat for the first time was one of the most amazing moments of my life. It’s just incredible that a Doppler can be placed on my belly, and we can hear the heartbeat of our beautiful miracle.

I confess I really miss reading. I have been so exhausted that whenever I get into bed, I just crash. I’ve read two books since my last book post, and I think I’ll be lucky if I have four books to share for the next link-up.

I confess I know no one's pregnancy is the same, but it drives me crazy when I read posts from bloggers that say morning sickness is nothing, and they can’t believe people whine about how hard it is. I am truly happy for them that they didn’t experience what I did, but that doesn’t mean that when I do share how difficult it was, I’m whining. I think it’s interesting to read everyone’s experience with pregnancy, but there is no reason to put down those who had a harder time.

I confess it’s weird for me that I am so much more emotional these days. What I just wrote in my last confession? I usually wouldn’t care. I’m also not used to crying at commercials or stories. Forget it if it’s anything about babies. It’s not nearly as bad as it was in my first trimester, but it’s still entertaining to me.

I confess it really makes me laugh when people say but you don’t look pregnant to me. If you spent a lot of time with me before I got pregnant, it’s pretty obvious (or at least obvious that I’ve gained weight). Chris and I can really tell, of course, and I know it won’t be much longer before people can tell. For now, I am enjoying being able to still wear my regular clothes!

  2. I can imagine that it is definitely different for everyone! I hope that some of those bad symptoms only continue to improve as things go along. That's so sweet your reaction to hearing the heartbeat. I'm sure it is different for some people, but I agree, try not to say anything so generalizing about pregnancy. Yikes. Certainly lucky that that person/those people didn't have severe morning sickness. But jeez! I'm sure you will be showing in no time! Enjoy wearing your normal clothing for now! :) I can understand missing reading, but it's good to let yourself sleep! Your body is hard at work! :) XO - Alexandra

  3. Aww, I'm glad you're taking it easy and listening to your body's needs! That's most important :) I have a feeling my emotions will behave similar to a rabid squirrel when we have kids. They're barely contained now, haha!
Hey! Kate Middleton had terrible morning sickness that landed her in the hospital. If the princess of England had morning sickness and felt weak then it can happen to anyone and it's 100% ok to feel crummy!

  4. Ahh - hang in there- that exhaustion will pass soon. You'll get that burst of energy & be on the go & have more time to read away.

  5. Girl, I feel you on the sickness, exhaustion, and general fogginess that includes confusion. The hormones I've been on for the past several months bring on all of that and it's horrific. I don't know how anyone that feels that way can function, ever. Seeing people doing the same thing as me while also holding down a job...how?!

  6. Your health is always most important and I'm sure we all understand if you can't get back to comments. I was the same way with pregnancy brain! Now I laugh and joke that it just continues and it's mom brain. I used to hate when people told me you don't look pregnant. Everyone's body is different just like every pregnancy is different. Keep wearing those regular clothes for as long as you can :)

  7. Hope you're feeling better! And morning sickness does really hit hard if you're suffering from it daily. From the beginning of my pregnancy, I was sick at least 5-6, sometimes 7 times a day for most of the first trimester, and then it decreased to about 3-4 times a day for the second and as I near the third, I'm feeling much better! I still get nauseous a good amount but not like it was before.

  8. Pregnancy brain is totally real!!! That's been my biggest challenge lately. Even though I didn't experience any morning sickness myself, I'm totally sympathetic to those who have it so bad! It really is no joke. Hopefully the exhaustion will pass soon and you are at least sleeping well! Also, hearing baby's heartbeat truly is the best. :)

  9. Oh yes to pregnancy brain, I didn't think it was a real thing either. And man alive the exhaustion and morning sickness are no joke! I can't believe anyone would ever downplay someone else's suffering, how awful! Sending *hugs* and hoping your 2nd trimester brings you more energy and feeling like yourself again <3

  10. We have a couple of pregnant ladies at the office who have dealt a lot with morning sickness, and I feel so bad for them because they just look miserable! You're totally right that everybody's pregnancy is different and if you don't have morning sickness, you shouldn't make others feel like their whining if they do have it. Hopefully yours is past though! And you really do look great and don't look pregnant, but I think that since you're in your own body you're more likely to start to tell the small and tiny differences.

  11. My best friend had morning sickness for EIGHT MONTHS. Twice. I hate that people make it sound so easy... because it's so easy for people to feel bad. You're growing a human. You're already a hero for that. ;)

  12. I am so worried about the emotional thing whenever I get pregnant. Lol I already get emotional at the drop of a hat when it comes to movies, commercials, music, even blogs sometimes! Congrats again!

  13. Pregnancy brain is a real thing. I just went on a dinner date with a very good friend who's pregnant (second trimester like you) and she forgot her wallet at home. When it came time to pay our tabs, she was so mortified and wanted to drive back home to get her wallet but I said "pregnancy brain, don't worry about it". So sorry about the morning sickness...it does happen and I do feel for those that go through it. Same friend had awful morning sickness and didn't feel herself until recently yet she still has food aversions...You're not alone. Everyone woman is different but some get luckier than others, I guess you can say.

  14. Oh pregnancy brain is a real thing! My friend is pregnant and the poor thing, she can't remember anything. And she constantly has to pee. Hope your morning sickness goes away soon.

  15. Pregnancy brain is such a real thing and I thought it was all a joke before I got pregnant too. The bad thing is, I dont think mine has gone away yet. Haha! I never felt real exhaustion until I was pregnant either. Man, I was tired ALLL of the time!!! I got really lucky and didn't suffer from morning sickness too bad. But I know that it can be really bad and really hard for some people. Every pregnancy is different for sure!
