Friday Favorites: Lots of Mini Life Updates

Happy Friday, friends! I feel like I haven’t updated y’all on life in a while, so I thought I would do that today.

One.
My little brother turns 21 today! (Anyone with younger siblings knows how old that makes me feel). He just left Texas on Tuesday to spend a semester studying abroad in Prague, so I hope he has the best time celebrating! It was funny because he was a little bummed he is celebrating his 21st birthday in a country where the legal drinking age is 18. Happy birthday, Vlady!

Two.
Now that it’s February, I’m getting really excited for our trip to Denver and Breckenridge. Chris has been a bit worn out during his current rotation, so it’s time for a break. Plus, his schedule will get much harder after we get back, so it will be nice to feel refreshed.

Three.
I am so excited to say Chris and I managed to meal plan for the entire month of January! I know that doesn’t sound like much to most, but I hate meal planning (or deciding what to cook in general), but since we’ve started doing it together, it has become a fun thing for us to do together. I’ll definitely post some more of our recent favorite recipes soon (this was my last recipe post).

Four.
That said, we are still continuing our tradition of going on a date once a week. We usually try to do it on Thursday, but we move it around according to our schedules. We love that time of focusing solely on each other, and I’ve been able to keep it budget friendly with coupons and Groupons.

Five.
I’ve been working on some early spring cleaning, and it feels so great to get rid of some of the clutter. I was clearing out my closet a bit because mom asked me if I had any clothes to send to Russia, and even though I purged in June, it was amazing how many clothes I found to give her. She even asked me if I really wanted to give all of that away. Yes, yes I do!

Have a great weekend, everyone! What have you been up to lately?

  4. I did a big purge recently as well and felt SO GOOD when I was done! I had to force myself to stop and not do my husband's things as well.

  5. I really, really need to do a purge of my closet too. It's getting a little out of hand at the moment.

  6. I love that y'all do a date night every week! That sounds like a great way to make sure that you still date your husband even though you're married. And that's a bummer that your brother will be celebrating in a country where the legal drinking age isn't 21, but at least he's in another country! He'll still have fun!

  7. Good luck to your little (way taller) brother on his new adventure! lol Don't worry my little sister is quite taller than me. It's so sweet you and Chris have been making it a point to have a date lunch/dinner every week. Great quality time means a lot especially with busy schedules!

  9. I desperately need to purge.
I love the mountains, so a trip to Colorado sounds like a great getaway to me. I hope y'all enjoy!

  10. I can't wait to hear about your trip! I'm from Boulder and lived in Denver for several years before moving to Northern California, and Breckenridge is my absolute favorite mountain town (will be there as maid of honor for a wedding in two months!). Let me know if you'd like any suggestions and looking forward to all the beautiful photos!

I totally get where your brother is coming from--I was living in Chile when I turned 21, and it didn't feel extra special since I'd been drinking there for six months already haha. But hey it's always exciting to turn the big 2-1, so happy birthday to him!

  11. We're heading to Denver in late spring, and I'm SO excited! I've never been before, so I'll have to get some tips from your upcoming visit. My little sister will turn the big 3-0 this year, and that has made me feel even more ancient than when she turned 18 or 21! :D :D

  12. Happy Birthday to your brother! (Mine is 23 and it kills me every time I remember that. How am I/is he this old??)
Good for you with the donating/purging! I'm slowing weeding stuff out of our closets and dressers!
We meal planned A LOT this month, but not the whole thing. And February is a cluster with all out business trips... so I'll try again when we get back :)

  13. Hope your brother has a great semester! A trip to Breckinridge and Denver will be an awesome break! Give yourself time to adjust to the altitude change in Denver before heading up if you can!

  14. Aww happy birthday to your brother! I remember when my younger sister graduated from college, I felt super old... and now she's 27! My gracious! Time is flying! Also speaking of our siblings... my older sister lives in Prague and loves it there. We visited her last fall and it was such a cool city! I hope your brother has a great time!

And hooray for meal planning and for date nights! And for planning a get away trip! Sounds like January was a good month for you guys!

  15. Oh wow! Sounds like an awesome month! Happy bday to your brother. A bday in Prague sounds GREAT(!) to me! heheh Meal planning is tough for me and KC too. I hope to do really well the remainder of this month. I think a lot of it is about prepping.. and I start reading at night or dive into a task or project and then it's 10:30 pm and I'm not about to start prepping food! Hehhe SO I am hoping to do better this month now that we have finished moving. Date nights are so important and all the de-cluttering/purging is GREAT! :) XO - Alexandra

  17. I have family in Denver and visited in October. It was wonderful (I hadn't been in over 20 years). We took a day trip to Breckenridge what a gorgeous spot. The Denver Botanical Gardens were beautiful. Enjoy your trip!
