Life Update: Ten Months in Chicago

We’ve officially hit the double-digit month mark in Chicago, and March was one of the best months yet.

One of my goals this year was to see the river while it was dyed green for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. As soon as Chris got off work, we headed to the Chicago River to join the party. It was so fun to see the river turned bright green, and it looked better than I expected!

March was a month of visitors, starting with a great reunion with some childhood friends. We live all over the country, so it’s been hard to get together over the years. We had such a fun time catching up and showing them our beautiful adopted city. Some highlights from the weekend include a river and lake tour, brunch at The Gage, a visit to the Art Institute of Chicago, and gorgeous skyline views at the Signature Lounge.

Right after our girls’ weekend, my in-laws came in town for a few days. It was so nice to spend Easter weekend with them. For Easter dinner, we went to Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak, and Stone Crab. Crab is my favorite food, but it’s too expensive to have often, so it was a real treat.

Chris had a day off while his parents were here, so we decided to get out of town and show them more of Illinois. Sadly, a lot of our favorite places were still closed for winter, but we still had a nice time visiting the Rock River, having a delicious lunch in St. Charles, and walking around Cantigny Park in Wheaton.

  1. Your past month in Chicago sounds like so much fun! That's so awesome that you got to see the Chicago River died green on St Patrick's Day, especially since I think that's what a lot of people think of when they think of Chicago and Saint Patrick's Day! That's so great that your friends got to come in town! I know how hard it is to meet up, especially when everybody is on opposite sides of the country!

  2. It sounds like you've had a really fun month! I love that picture of your with your friends all holding hot drinks! I've only ever been to Chicago when it was cold, so I always have a hot drink in hand when there. I go to St. Charles once a year for a work training, and it's always in November!

  6. Wow! That river is really green. I always thought they upped the color in photos to make it stand out more, but it really is that color.

  7. I love seeing the river dyed each year, such a festive treat! That's great that you have been able to have visitors, spring/summer is the best time to have guests because there is a whole lot more to be able to do.

  8. I love me some crab too! So delish but expensive so, like you said, when I do get it, it is a treat.

Sounds like you had a fabulous month. I'm glad that you are enjoying Chicago. :)

  12. March did look like a fun month for you!! Isn't it crazy how quickly time seems to go by when you're in a new city?! This month marks a year of us living in Houston, and it really, really, REALLY does just feel like yesterday when we moved.

  14. The green river looks so pretty! How in the world do they get all that water to turn and stay green?

  24. I love getting together with old friends like that! A lot of my friends are scattered throughout the country, and it's always awesome when we can actually get together in person. A couple of my friends and I video chat on Skype about once a month (or once every couple of months if we're all really busy), and that somehow makes us feel like we're hanging out in person. (It's the next best thing, I guess.)

I love crab too, but you're right ... It's way too expensive to have all the time! Why do some of the best things have to be so pricey?

  25. Really. What I'm going to say has nothing to do with your post. But, I can't stop looking at your hair in these pics. I really love it wavy! You usually straighten it, don't you? Not that it looks bad straight. I didn't mean it to sound that way at all!!! I just noticed it wavy and how much I liked it.

  26. I still need to go to the Signature Lounge. Looks like you had a fun month! Aren't you so ready for the weather to change? I know I am!

    1. So the thing with the Signature Lounge is that the view is amazing, but the drinks aren't great. We each had one drink, and everyone only liked mine! It was a bummer.
