The Siberian American: Confessions: What Is Normal?

Confessions: What Is Normal?

I was planning on finishing up a travel post for today, but I woke up with a migraine and didn’t feel well enough to put together the photos for it. Let’s just ignore the fact that I’m still halfway through sharing about our California road trip…which we took in March 2015. Life has just been so crazy since then. Here’s hoping it slows down a bit!

I’m having trouble figuring out what my new “normal” is. This week was the first time in months where I haven’t felt bad every day (though I have had a few rough days that got me worried. I’m hoping it’s just the healing process.), and I am slowly starting to freelance again, but it’s been hard to get back into my regular routine. I think that’s partially because the last time I felt “normal” I was in Chicago, and life looked a lot different than it does now. Anyways, now that I’m doing better, people keep asking me if I’m planning to keep freelancing or find a job, and I just don’t know yet. I know I would miss freelancing if I quit, but I do miss the people interaction of an office setting.

After having to have two haircuts in the past two weeks, I pretty much want to avoid haircuts for the foreseeable future. My hair is so much shorter than I wanted it to be since I needed to lose length to get my terrible haircut fixed. Most people would probably still consider it long, but I’m usually pretty low maintenance with my hair, and at this length, I feel like I’m constantly having to style it.

Is it strange that I have never reread a book? I just feel like there are so many books in this world I want to read. I’ve actually been considering rereading the Harry Potter series, though, since it’s been almost 10 years since I read the last book.

I finally got a Snapchat. I thought it would be a fun way to document our adventures in Tennessee next month. Follow me (SiberianOlya), and I will follow back! Also, be prepared for lots of snaps of my dog.

I have a striped shirts problem. I bought new clothes for the first time in forever (pretty proud of myself for that! Haha.), and it was five striped shirts. I keep telling myself to diversify my wardrobe, but then I see all the striped things, and I can’t help it.

I also must confess that I’m pretty sure every time I’ve done a confessions post I haven’t linked up with anyone, and I likely won’t today. I just like to do them every once in a while to share all the random things in my head. I also haven't done one in over a year, so I figured it was time!

  1. Yay - going to follow you on Snapchat! Can't wait to follow your TN adventures. The same exact thing happened to me once with my hair - I had a terrible cut and had to go to someplace different to fix it but then it was too short.... :( I had to tell myself every time I looked in the mirror that it would grow back!

  2. I don't reread books either. Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland are the two exceptions.
I'm glad you're starting to feel a little more normal- hope you figure out some direction soon :) It's always nice to have a plan!
    Adding you on SnapChat now!

  3. I've never jumped onto Snapchat... I'm all about Instagram Stories though :)
I'm not sure I've reread a book either...

  5. Moving is such a weird transition in life! It's exciting and adventurous, but also lonely and scary, and then add in fifty more mixed emotions and you've got it! ;) Good luck as you figure out what a new normal is!

Ugh, bad haircuts are the worst! Grow hair grow!

  6. I've never reread a book until now--and I'm rereading Harry Potter! I'm super glad I did though. But there are some other books I loooved and want to reread some day, like some Jodi Picoult books.

Yesss to all the striped shirts! They're the best.

  7. I'm seriously impressed that you've never re-read a book! I went to grad school for literature, and, while I was there (and after I graduated, too) I taught undergrad classes. I had to re-read SO much stuff to lead the discussions, even the books that I wasn't really into the first time! :D If you've got to start somewhere with the re-reading, the HP series is a great place to start--I discover something new every time I have a run through them!

  9. I just added you on Snapchat (I'm "ImMandie").

I actually just reread the Harry Potter series & I too read them about ten years ago so it was nice to reread them & then jump right into The Cursed Child. :)

  10. There are probably less than 10 books that I've re-read...you're right that there are just far too many good books out there!

I'm glad you have been feeling better. I hope the last little bits of discomfort will fade away soon and you'll suddenly realize one day that you've felt amazing for a while!

  11. I don't blame you for not rereading a book. I've reread Harry Potter and I think about rereading others, but there are sooo many books to read. I love striped shirts, too. I also have a plaid/flannel obsession in the fall. Every time I buy one, I realize it is the same color as the others I have in my closet. I guess I just really like red flannel!

  12. There's so many trips I still need to re-cap on my blog. I feel you! Some days it just seems like too much work to get them done in time and then before you know it, it's a year later lol. Welcome to the snapchat world. You're going to have so much fun with all the filters.

  13. I'm pretty sure the only book I've re-read is The Secret Garden, and I've read it four times. I do intend to re-read The Book Thief someday, but I'm with you...too many books that I have not read but really want to read.

  14. I'm a sucker for stripes, too...I just can't help it!

  15. Oo totally adding you on snapchat! I love striped anything so I'm with you on that, I don't think you can have enough stripes :)! Hope you get back into your "normal" routine girl, it takes time and that's important to remember!

  16. So sorry to hear you're still having some rough days, sending lots of *hugs*. Hopefully your good days will far outweigh the bad days in the coming weeks. And I've never been a re-reader of books either until Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. There's so much detail in both series, it's a great refresher!

  17. yayyy added you on snapchat! warning, lots of pictures of my cats ;)
i am with you on striped shirts but i refuse to call it a problem. haha!
i'm sorry about the rough days and the migraine, i hope it's all good from here on out!
i am weird with re-reading books. most of the time, i'm like absolutely not, too many books too little time, plus i have a weird memory. if you ask me what happens in a book i read a year ago, i can't tell you. but if i open that book and try and read it, i remember every little word. so i have to wait years between rereading, and sometimes i get a fancy to read something i read recently (sometimes series, when the new one comes out) and i have a few favourites that never get old, but for the most part, nope. i have read HP like 6 times though!

  19. I'm not much of a book re-reader myself . . . I'm with you, too many to get through. I could do Harry Potter again though! Snapchat is fun . . . I mostly snap my dogs so I totally can't wait to see yours! I also prefer a stripe shirt . . . can't really explain why though. I love a confessions post!

  21. I'm very low maintenance with my hair too - never does much anyway!! Ooh, yeah, I don't tend to reread books either, although I have read a couple a couple of times..! I've been getting more and more into Snapchat although with Instagram Stories, I'm getting confused on what to use! Hehe ;)
