Friday Favorites: First Week of Intern Year

Hey, friends! It’s been a while since I did a Friday favorites post, so I wanted to join in on the fun today. Here are my favorites this week:

/ / One:
Chris officially started intern year this week! After all these years and the last few months of preparing for our move and his new job, it’s crazy that he is officially working as a doctor. He spent the last two weeks in orientation, so he was definitely ready to work.

/ / Two:
Speaking of residency, Chris gets one day off a week, so I am trying to plan fun activities in Chicago. This week his day off is Sunday, and I’m really hoping to make it to the beach.

/ / Three:
I have really enjoyed participating in the Literary Ladies Reading Challenge so far! Now that I have more time to myself, I love using it to read. So far, I have read three out of the ten books for the challenge.

/ / Four:
Now that we have lived in Chicago for almost a month (what?!), I’m starting to put together a bucket list for our year here. If you have been to Chicago and have suggestions, send them my way!

/ / Five:
Chris gets vacation in two-week blocks. One block is in September, and the other block is in June to help us move back to Dallas. I am hoping to plan a fun road trip for us. My ambitious idea is to drive from Chicago to Quebec City, stopping in Toronto, Montreal, and Niagara Falls, with a day in Maine on the way back. I’m worried this might be too much for Chris since I want it to be relaxing, so other ideas of places to visit are appreciated!

Thank you for participating in my brain dump today, friends. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Linking up with AmandaKarli, and the High Five for Friday girls.

  1. Congratulations to Chris - what a wonderful accomplishment!! Your drive sounds ambitious but worth it to see all those sites!! Happy Friday! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  2. Congratulations to Chris! I love Chicago, I haven't been in quite some time but I always loved going and have been thinking of making a trip soon. The city is great but there are so many fun, cute suburb towns outside of it that I would suggest visiting for a day trip!

  3. I hope you get to visit Niagra Falls, it's on my bucket list for sure! The road trip might be ambitious, but it'll definitely be a fun time.

  4. So nice that you can look forward to the 2 week holidays! Looking forward to your bucket list!

    1. Thanks, Shay! I wish he had more flexibility on the holidays, but that is how it works. I'm really looking forward to spending all that time together though. :)

  5. Look at Chris! He looks so official! The literary link up and the road trip sound fantastic!

  6. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and love my city! (sadly I no longer live there) but I have so many suggestions for you:

Eleven City Diner is a great brunch spot, one of my favorites. I also love Yolk.

Check out Maggie Daley Park if you haven't already.

Go to summer concerts in Millennium Park. See the museums all of them! Art Institute, Planetarium, the Shedd Aquarium, Museum of Science and Industry etc!

    Outdoor summer movies.

Chinatown and Vietnamese town on Argyle are always delicious.

Cubs games (or the White Sox) depending on who you root for. :)

And the obvious shopping streets State and Michigan Ave.

Have some garret's or nuts on clark caramel popcorn for me!!

    1. Thank you so much for your suggestions! We have been hearing so many good things about Eleven City Diner and Yolk. Can't wait to try them. :)

  7. How exciting for Chris! What an exciting time for you both!

  8. Congrats to Chris, that is huge news! I went to Chicago for the first time last September and LOVED it! We enjoyed going to a Cubs game at Wrigley, drinks in the Signature Lounge of the Hancock Building, drinks at a hidden tiki bar called Three Dots and a Dash (super cool place!), architectural river cruise, and of course all the amazing food!

  9. Look at Dr. Chris. The doctor's coat looks good on him. Hope you get some nice weather on Sunday to hit the beach!

  11. You've read three books already? I just started my 3rd last night. I gotta chase you now :)

Tell Dr. Chris that the blogosphere wishes him all the best and we've got good luck vibes coming his way!

  12. yay congrats to Chris!
and go you 3 books already! that's awesome.

  13. How is his residency going? My sister in law starts on Monday and she is so nervous! I hope you guys enjoy your days off exploring!!!

  14. Door County in Wisconsin is super cute. Also, Lake Superior in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota are beautiful!

  15. Oh super Interesting!
